What does “by the metre” mean?

Sold “by the metre” is the unit of measure that represents the length of the mesh or other product regardless of the height. A number of products in fenceshop have a price expressed by this unit of measure. For example: The cost of a type of mesh 2 metres high and 2 metres long will be calculated by multiplying the unit price by the linear length (2) as the unit price already includes whatever the height of the product might be.

What does “roll” mean?

The "roll" is a unit of measurement that identifies a quantity of meters (always indicated in the product description) of some articles that can be rolled up but can not be sold with a cut per meter, such as some nets and shading. Example: a roll of a net 25 meters long and 2 meters high, will remain a "roll".

Why do some products require a minimum order?

Some of our products carry a minimum order due to either their size and/or cost.

Some of our products, for example, are light weight but occupy a lot of space. A minimum order optimizes packaging and shipping.

Other products are only available to order. Producing these items involves setting up a manufacturing process whether 1 or 5 pieces are to be produced.

Other items are available at such a low cost that a minimum order is necessary to justify the purchase.

What do I do if I receive damaged goods?

Though this is a very infrequent occurrence, goods may be damaged in transit.

How many types of fences are there?

Generally speaking there are three types of fencing: Chain link, electro-welded and panels. Each has different characteristics and relative costs. All the product descriptions on our website include indications as to the most suitable uses.

Up

Fencing installation

What is a chain link fence?

Chain link in the classic diamond shape loose mesh. This characteristic makes it ideal for installation along particularly irregular landscapes like woodlands. Chain link mesh is also well-suited to level ground and wall installation just like any other mesh. This is a low price mesh but we don’t recommend it if you have large dogs or when creating enclosures for animals in general as it tends to unravel if pulled. Chain link is only available in 25 metre rolls.

Up

Fencing installation

What is an electro welded fence?

Electro welded mesh is a valid alternative to chain link for installation on level ground or on walls. Its name comes from the fact that each wire is welded to the other to form the mesh. This characteristic limits flexibility but makes it stronger and therefore an ideal solution for animal enclosures. There is a vast range of mesh designs to choose from making it suitable for residential, industrial and agricultural installation. It is mainly sold by the roll but some lines are available by the metre.

What is a modular panelled fence?

Panel fencing represents the latest evolution in architectural style. They are modular and come in various widths. Being as they are rigid they are rather difficult to install in areas with an uneven landscape but are great on level terrains and walls. There is a vast range of designs to choose from making them suitable for residential, industrial and agricultural installation.

How many posts will I need for my fence?

The distance or spacing between posts doesn’t have a precise rule but bear in mind that the farther apart the posts are the weaker your fence is going to be. We recommend spacing posts at a distance of about 2 metres. Remember that the pointed part of the post is not the part that goes on the ground.

Up

Fencing installation

What are brace bars and what are their purpose?

The brace bars strengthen the corner posts and the start and end posts so that when you tension the tension wire they don’t lean inwards. Brace bars are fundamental for a strong sturdy fence.

Up

Fencing installation

How many brace bars will I need for my fence?

Here’s how to calculate how many brace bars you’ll need: 1 brace bar for each starting point (starting point or first post); 2 brace bars for each corner or change in direction (line that deviates even only slightly); 2 brace bars for every interruption (line interrupted by a gate for example).

Up

How is the height of the post calculated with regard to the height of the mesh?

To calculate the height of the post first you need to decide if you are going to install your fence at ground level or on a wall. At ground level you need to cement at least 50 cm of post into the ground so the posts have to be 50 cm higher than the mesh. For example: For mesh 120 cm high you’ll need 175 cm posts. If you are installing your fence on a wall 20/30 cm higher than the mesh are sufficient. Example: For mesh 120 cm high you’ll need 150 cm posts.

How is the height of the brace bar calculated with regard to the height of the mesh?

To calculate the height of the brace bars first you need to decide if you are going to install your fence at ground level or on a wall. For a fence installed at ground level a suitable height for the brace bars is an average between the height of the nesh and the height of the posts. For example: For mesh 120 cm high and 175 cm posts the brace bar should be 150 cm high. If you are installing your fence on a wall a brace bar of the same height as the mesh will be sufficient. For example: For mesh 120 cm high you will need a brace bar 120 cm high.

What is the difference between tension wire and tie wire?

Tension wire is rigid and has a 3.2 mm core, which makes it difficult to handle but well suited to tensioning and supporting the mesh. On the contrary, tie wire is malleable and much finer (approx. 2.2 mm in diameter), which makes it easy to work with and suitable for tying the mesh to the tension wire. Never use tie wire to tension as it will break!

Up

Fencing installation

How much tension wire and tie wire will I need?

For mesh under a metre high you will need to calculate just over twice as much tension wire as the length of your fence. Mesh over a meter, three times as much. With regard to tie wire, you usually need half as much tie wire as you need tension wire. Tension and tie wire is usually sold in reels of 50 and 100 metres.

Up

Fencing installation

What are wire tensioners and how many will I need?

Wire tensioners are necessary to adequately tension the tension wire. You will need one per tension wire. For example: For a fence with 4 sides and a gate you will need 15 wire tensioners.

How do I install shading or screening material?

Shading or screening is installed on existing mesh or railings and can be secured with clips or tie wire. We recommend securing shading and/or screening at a distance of no more than 40 cm to at the top, middle and bottom. Shading is not damaged by the sun or the cold but can be easily damaged by the wind if it is not secured properly.
