Barbed Wire: Discover Its Features

Hello everyone, we are the Fenceshop team, and today we would like to talk to you about the features of barbed wire, specifically the Riccio model by Cavatorta, available in galvanized and coated versions. This product is an excellent solution for those looking for effective methods of delimitation and protection, both in agricultural and industrial settings.

Riccio by Cavatorta Range

The Riccio by Cavatorta barbed wire is distinguished by its various surface treatment options. The first option is the wire with strong galvanization, known as the Galva Fort Process. The second option is the galvanized and coated wire with an intermediate layer of green primer, called Galv PX Press. Finally, there is the wire with strong galvanization and a zinc-aluminum alloy, called Rico Tech. In our store, both online and physical, we offer the Galva and Galv PX.

Technical Specifications

The double carrying wires have a diameter of 1.7 mm for the galvanized version and 2.1 mm for the galvanized and coated version. The wire diameter for the barbs of the galvanized version is 1.5 mm, while for the coated version is 1.8 mm. The barbs consist of four elements, spaced about 10 cm apart. The rolls are available in lengths of 100, 250, and 500 meters for the galvanized version, and 100 and 250 meters for the coated version.

A small note: in the coated version, the barbs are less sharp compared to the galvanized ones. This is because the coating tends to slightly round the barbs, reducing their aggressiveness.

Applications of Barbed Wire

Barbed wire is ideal for agricultural, livestock, and industrial uses, but it is increasingly used in civil contexts as well. It is a versatile product that can be used in various ways depending on the specific installation needs.

Installation of Barbed Wire

Installing barbed wire can vary in difficulty, with a level ranging from 1 to 5. Generally, we consider the installation difficulty level to be 3. The barbed wire can be worked like tension wire, using tensioners to keep it taut. If necessary, the barbs can be cut with pliers to facilitate installation.

We always recommend using thick gloves and protective glasses during installation to avoid injuries. The 100-meter packages have a cardboard handle, while the 250-meter packages feature an internal iron handle for greater safety during handling.

Personal Considerations

Personally, I am not a big fan of barbed wire as a defensive element for people, although it is effective for keeping four-legged animals away. In terms of deterrence for wrongdoers, barbed wire can be easily removed with wire cutters. It's more of a psychological than a physical deterrent.

A more effective alternative might be the military concertina, which we will explore in a future video.
