Today we talk about the tenaglia, the undisputed tool for those dealing with fences. It may seem like a simple and primitive tool, but its functions are fundamental. Let’s discover them together!

The Main Functions of the Tenaglia

The tenaglia is one of those tools that accompanies us throughout the workday and requires little maintenance, just a bit of oil now and then. It’s a tool that never goes out of fashion and has existed forever. At Fenceshop, we use the Tenaglia Knipex, a made-in-Germany product known for its superior quality. Let's look at the main uses of the tenaglia.

  • Tying: The main function of the tenaglia is to tie simple or double binding wires. This is what we use it for 90% of the time.
  • Cutting: The tenaglia is perfect for cutting tension wires, trimming the mesh at the base, cutting pieces of mesh, and even steel cables up to 3-4 mm, with the necessary attention not to damage the blades.
  • Hammering: Although it is not a hammer, the tenaglia can be used to hammer fix-ties, wedges under gates, and hinges for inserting or removing pins.
  • Levering: By using the handles as a lever, the tenaglia is ideal for pulling the mesh, especially in the last few centimeters, by inserting the tenaglia between two links and pulling further.
  • Scissors: If the blades are sharp, the tenaglia can also be used to cut packaging, straps, and polyethylene meshes, like those used in football fields.
  • Pliers and Wrench: To tighten a tie-rod, the tenaglia can replace a ten-millimeter wrench by fitting into the ratchet and tightening it. This is a daily use for us at Fenceshop.
Types and Sizes
