4 ways to lay barbed wire

Hello everyone! We are the Fenceshop team, your trusted ecommerce for everything related to fences. Today we want to share with you four effective ways to lay barbed wire over a fence. Laying barbed wire can present some challenges, but with the right tips and tricks, you can tackle the job with confidence and skill. Here are our suggestions for optimal installation.

Introduction

Before we start, it's important to make two notes: we will not cover the legal aspects related to the use of barbed wire, for which we have already created specific videos with the legal support of lawyer Nimi. Additionally, safety is paramount. When working with barbed wire, always wear thick gloves, appropriate clothing, and possibly protective goggles.

Method 1: Single wire above the fence

The first method is the simplest and most common: placing a single barbed wire above the fence. For this task, it's advisable to work in pairs. Insert a tube inside the roll of barbed wire; one person holds the tube while the other unrolls and places the wire. You can tie it to the last hole of the post, leaving it detached from the fence as a deterrent, or attach it flush with the fence itself. A tensioner can be used to tighten the wire, maintaining a distance of about 10 cm between the points.

Method 2: Wire in multiple stretches

The second method involves laying barbed wire in multiple stretches, always maintaining a linear arrangement. The difference compared to the first method is that you will need to repeat the operation several times, creating, for example, three or four wire stretches. This method can be more complicated because the new wires tend to get caught on those already laid, but with a little patience, nothing is insurmountable.

Method 3: Create a barrier

The third method consists of creating a true barrier of barbed wires. In this case, we place seven horizontal wires with four wires on the bend and all the crosses. This type of installation requires more time and attention, as the barbed wire tends to snag easily. Working in a team is essential: while some people unroll the wire, others fix it to the posts or the fence.

Method 4: Wire on posts with arm extension

The fourth method involves the use of posts with arm extensions, creating a V structure in which to place the spiral barbed wire. This configuration is more complex, but the spiral maintains its shape thanks to the wire's own memory. Simply unroll it from the coil and place it in the V structure, tying it to the other wires to form an impenetrable barrier.

Conclusions

Laying barbed wire can be a challenging task, but with the right precautions and a bit of help, it is possible to achieve excellent results. Always remember to work safely and to be patient.
