Chain Link Mesh with Tight Mesh: Where and What It Is Used For

Hello everyone, it's us from Fenceshop and today we will talk about chain link mesh with a tight mesh, particularly with a 30x30 mm mesh. Let's look together at its technical characteristics and main uses.

Technical Characteristics

This mesh has a 30x30 mm mesh size, unlike the traditional chain link mesh which usually has a 50x50 mm mesh size. It is made of a 2 mm diameter galvanized wire, which reaches an outer diameter of 2.7 mm thanks to the green plastic coating. The available heights are five: 1 meter, 1.25 meters, 1.50 meters, 1.75 meters, and 2 meters. The mesh is sold in rolls of 20 linear meters, a choice motivated by the weight of the product.

Main Uses

This mesh is extremely versatile and finds use in various sectors. Here are some of the main uses:

  • Sport: It is ideal for fencing bocce courts, preventing the game ball from passing through the mesh. It is also used for punchball courts, as demonstrated by an installation we did in Rocchetta Belbo.
  • Forestry: It is suitable for fencing forests thanks to its ability to adapt to ground imperfections. It is perfect for those with small animals that could cross the property.
  • Industrial and Civil: An example is the fencing of the helicopter landing pad at the Asti hospital, where the specifications required this type of mesh.
Installation and Suitable Posts

On a scale from 1 to 5, the installation difficulty of this mesh is around grade 3. It is a heavier mesh compared to other chain link meshes, so it might be a bit more difficult to handle. We recommend unrolling it on the ground before lifting it to facilitate installation and prevent the meshes from catching on each other.

Another particularity is that it has short spikes at the top and bottom, which might not be sufficient to easily hook it to the tension wire. In these cases, it will be necessary to make ties every so often to keep it in position.

As for suitable posts, a classic T-post is sufficient. However, if greater sturdiness is desired, more robust round posts can be used.

Final Considerations

This mesh has a higher cost compared to traditional chain link meshes, but the price difference is justified by the fact that it weighs almost twice as much, about 2 kg per square meter compared to 1 kg of standard meshes. However, it is not recommended for fencing areas with large dogs, as they might be able to break through it.

Nonetheless, it remains an excellent mesh, often underestimated.
