Mesh for Insect Screens

Hello everyone, I’m Marco from Fenceshop. Fenceshop is an e-commerce specialized in meshes and fences. Today we are talking about insect screen mesh, an essential product especially in summer, when mosquitoes and other insects can become really bothersome.

Before we start, it’s important to note: we are not talking about pre-made frames but insect screen mesh sold in rolls and cut by the meter. This means you can adjust the mesh to fit your windows or doors according to your needs.

Models of Insect Screen Mesh

At Fenceshop, we offer three main models of insect screen mesh, each with unique characteristics. Here is a detailed overview:

  • Moschito: This model is made of plastic and is UV protected. The mesh size is 1.6 x 1.6 mm. It is available in three colors: green, gray, and white. It’s an economical option, ideal for those looking for a low-cost solution. The available formats are rolls of 5 or 50 meters with a height of 1 meter.
  • Tropical: Made of fiberglass, this model is also UV protected. The mesh has the same dimensions as the Moschito model, 1.6 x 1.6 mm. It is available in the colors green, gray, and white. At Fenceshop, we offer a convenient cut by the meter, with heights of 80 cm, 100 cm, 120 cm, and 140 cm. On our store, as a commercial choice, we only keep the gray color. Both the Moschito and Tropical models are non-fraying, lightweight, resistant to chemicals, do not impede ventilation, and are washable at 30° for reuse.
  • Zanzibar: This model is made of aluminum, which means it won’t rust. It is only available in rolls of 30 meters, but we also apply a cut by the meter with heights of 80 cm, 100 cm, and 120 cm. It is a robust mesh, ideal also as a filter. However, it is not recommended for those who have cats, as the intertwined wires can be easily snagged by feline claws. It is instead perfect for those who have problems with mice, as these rodents find it more difficult to bite through aluminum compared to plastic or fiberglass.
Installation Tips

Since these are rolls of mesh, they need to be properly secured. At Fenceshop, we recommend using wooden or metal borders to pinch the mesh between the frame and the border itself, thus distributing the holding force around the entire perimeter. You can use nails, wood screws, or self-tapping screws. In some cases, hot glue can be an effective solution, especially for fiberglass meshes.

Final Considerations

If you have cats, avoid aluminum mesh and opt for plastic or fiberglass. Conversely, if you have problems with mice, aluminum mesh will be the best choice. We hope this information has been helpful.
