The robust anti-hail mesh

Is there an anti-hail mesh that lasts longer over time? We at Fenceshop are here to find out together. Hi everyone, I’m Marco from Fenceshop, and today we will talk about the Defender Plus double wire anti-hail mesh by Tenax.

Before diving into the technical details, it is important to highlight that we are talking about a double wire anti-hail mesh. This feature makes it particularly robust and durable. But let's go step by step and discover all its peculiarities together.

Technical characteristics
  • Mesh size: The mesh has a size of about 7x8 mm. As it is a woven mesh, there is a small tolerance in the measurements.
  • Available formats: The mesh is available in rolls of 50 or 100 meters, depending on the height. At Fenceshop, we also offer convenient per meter cutting to suit your needs.
  • Available heights: There are 5 available heights to adapt to different needs.
  • Material: The mesh is made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) stabilized against ultraviolet rays, ensuring long-lasting durability.
Main uses

This anti-hail mesh is perfect for agricultural use, ideal for protecting large cultivated areas from hail or even a small home garden. It is both economical and robust. But that’s not all: we have also used it in sports, particularly in paintball. In this case, the client needed a mesh that could withstand the impact of colored projectiles, was lightweight, and allowed air passage. We devised a liftable system to prevent the sail effect, demonstrating the versatility and robustness of the mesh.

Installation methods

The mesh can be installed in two main ways:

  • Homemade method: Purchase the sheet, spread it out, and pull to protect the desired area.
  • Professional method: Using plastic mesh fix hooks to create universal attachment points on the perimeter selvedge of the mesh. These hooks allow the mesh to be attached to tension wires or structures using carabiners, facilitating seasonal detachment.

Remember to remove the mesh during winter to prevent accumulated snow from making it collapse. Despite its robustness, it is good practice to remove it during the cold months.

The double wire: a fundamental feature

One of the most important features of the Defender Plus mesh is the double wire. Each horizontal strand is doubled, making the mesh almost twice as heavy as traditional anti-hail meshes. This makes it extremely resistant and durable. There are different types of meshes on the market, but it is always important to assess whether it is a single or double wire, as the difference in robustness is significant.
