Fences: What happens if you don't...

Hello everyone, I am Marco from Fenceshop, the e-commerce specialized in fence products. Today I want to talk to you about what can happen if you don't follow certain fundamental steps during fence installation. This video was inspired by a suggestion from one of our customers, whom I thank for the idea. Here are the five crucial points to consider.

1. What happens if you don't install brace arms

Brace arms, those diagonal supports that hold the posts, are essential for the stability of the fence. If we don't use them, the fence won't stay up. When we pull a mesh or wires, the brace arms help keep everything in position. Without them, the posts will bend or collapse, especially at the corners where forces are greater.

2. What happens if you don't install tension wires

Tension wires are equally important. Together with the posts, they form the skeleton of the fence. Without these wires, even the most beautiful mesh won't have the proper stability. We recommend pulling at least three tension wires to give linearity, aesthetics, and cleanliness to the fence. Tension wires and tie wires are inexpensive compared to posts and mesh, so don't underestimate them.

3. What happens if you don't create concrete footings

Concrete footings are essential for the long-term stability of the fence. While there are alternatives like Vortek foundation screws, footings are indispensable for more robust fences, such as industrial ones. Without footings, the fence risks collapsing over time, especially on sandy or unstable ground.

4. What happens if you install a shade cloth or screen

If the fence is not properly proportioned and well supported, a shade cloth can cause the structure to collapse at the first gust of wind. We at Fenceshop sell shade cloths, but it is important to inform you correctly. If the posts are not robust, the fence might bend or collapse. Make sure that the posts are adequate and well-dimensioned to withstand the force of the wind.

5. What happens if you don't tie the mesh

Tying the mesh is crucial for the stability of the fence. The mesh should be tied every 30-40 cm on each horizontal wire and every 2-2.5 meters on the posts. Well-made ties keep the mesh adhered to the structure, preventing vibrations and unwanted movements. This is particularly important for fences subject to stress, such as those in soccer fields.
