How to Install Privacy Strips on Panels

Hello everyone! We at Fenceshop are here to guide you step by step in placing synthetic rattan strips on your fence panels. This tutorial is part of our "From Words to Action" series, where we show you how to practically do things instead of just talking about them. If you're already familiar with synthetic rattan, you'll know it's an ideal solution for making your fences more concealing. However, if you want to learn more, we invite you to check out the specific video we've made about the product.

Installation Requirements

Before we start, let's make sure we have everything we need. The synthetic rattan strips we offer are 190 mm wide and 205 cm long, perfect for panels with a mesh height of 200 mm and 2 m in length. However, there are panels with differently sized meshes, so it's important to verify the measurements before proceeding with the purchase and installation. The strips available on our store are designed to fit perfectly, thanks to their design that allows a zigzag installation, compensating for any slight measurement differences.

Necessary Materials and Tools
  • Synthetic rattan strips
  • Fence panel
  • Fix-ties (preferably in the color of the strips)
  • Screwdriver or awl
  • Scissors
  • Pliers (optional)
Installation Procedure

Start by unrolling the synthetic rattan and threading it through the mesh of the panel. It's advisable to work in pairs: one person pushes the rattan from one side, while the other guides it through the mesh. You can choose to follow an alternating insertion pattern, such as one mesh yes and one no, to customize the final aesthetic.

Once the rattan is correctly positioned, use the screwdriver or awl to slightly enlarge the existing holes in the rattan, to insert the fix-ties. The fix-ties should be tightened around the wires of the panel to securely fasten the rattan. Repeat the process on both ends to ensure the rattan is well-anchored and does not move in the wind.

Practical Tips and Warnings

The process is simple but can be time-consuming, especially if the fence is long or tall. Ensure that your fence is sturdy enough to withstand the wind pressure when installing the strips, as the sail effect can pose a risk to the structure's stability. In case of strong winds, it might be useful to alternate the strips to allow air passage.

Finally, once installation is complete, cut any excess from the fix-ties with pliers for a clean and neat finish. Always remember to work safely and check that the fence is well-secured to the ground.
