3 ways to replace an already cemented fence post

Hello everyone! I’m Marco from Fenceshop, your online reference point for everything related to fences and related products. Today we want to share with you three effective methods to replace a damaged or bent fence post that is already cemented on a wall. This guide comes thanks to a suggestion from one of our subscribers, whom we wish to thank. Let's start exploring the available options.

First method: Welding a new post

The first method involves using welding. If the post is only bent at the top while the first 10 centimeters are still straight and solid, we can proceed as follows:

  • Cut the existing post 10 cm from the wall, keeping the straight part.
  • Take a new post and cut it so that you can weld it head to head with the existing post.
  • Perform a simple weld to join the two posts.
  • After welding, apply enamel and paint to protect the metal and prevent rust.

This method requires welding skills and access to a welder, but it can be an effective and lasting solution.

Second method: Using a core drill

The second method, more challenging but aesthetically ideal, involves using a core drill:

  • Cut the damaged post flush with the wall using a cutting disc.
  • Use a core drill to create a hole in the cement around the damaged post.
  • Remove the “core” of cement using wedges and a chisel.
  • Insert a new post into the created hole and cement it again.

This method offers an impeccable aesthetic result, but requires the use of specific equipment like a core drill, which can be rented.

Third method: Using a mounting plate

The third method, the quickest and most affordable, is the use of a mounting plate:

  • Cut the damaged post flush with the wall.
  • Attach a mounting plate to the cut post.
  • Insert a new post into the plate and secure it in position.

This method is simple and does not require special equipment, but it may be less aesthetic compared to others, especially if there are many cemented posts without plates around.

We hope these tips have been helpful! If you have other methods or suggestions, do not hesitate to share them in the comments.
